FOUNDATIONS FOR CHANGE

This painting celebrates the historic foundations for change, both architectural & legal, that have been built in the Capitals’ home. WIth its 50th anniversary this year, Title IX deserves to be worn proudly on the chest as it has provided tremendous opportunities for women in sports. The colorful collaged architectural elements represents restitching the fabric of history, and an opportunity to re-examine the impact of Title IX from a new perspective.

CUSTOM PROFESSIONAL MASK

This painting showcases the professional custom paint job I was able to collaborate on the design of. College and Professional goalies use the painting of their helmet as a reflection of themselves, their team, their inspiration and their story as a hockey player. I chose to pay homage to my home base in Greenpoint, NY, with the water tower, FDNY, my dog Lenny, and the American history associated with our team mascot.

CHAMPIONSHIP RING

This painting is inspired by my championship ring which was designed following our league championship victory in 2018. The bright colors, illuminated metals and glistening jewels represent the shining achievement myself and my teammates felt. The ring is adorned with our team logo, championship status, player name and jersey number.

This painting is inspired by a photograph that was my point of view as the buzzer sounded solidifying the championship win for my team in 2018. As I swung my legs over the boards following my teammates in celebration, gloves began to rain down as it is a hockey tradition to throw your gloves, stick and sometimes helmet into the air in triumph. As it all happens so fast: the buzzer sounds, equipment begins to fly, a dog pile ensues and fans join in our expression of joy and excitement.

PROFUNDME MASK

This painting represents the lengths at which I was required to go to replace my old, mismatched mask. With news of my signing and my mask representing the wrong team, word spread amongst fans and a GoFundMe was generously created to help gather the funds needed to purchase the updated mask and paint job. The blues and grays of this painting indicate the colors and logo of a previous team I once played for and stands out against the shadowy red of my jersey. The subdued and dull colors used in this painting aim to evoke the shame felt requiring financial assistance from fans, while not receiving the professional equipment from the league.

CHAMPIONSHIP BILL

This painting was inspired by the invoice I received for my championship ring. The ring company was chosen, the rings were designed, and the final step to receive your ring was to pay the minimum fee of $102.70 for your ring or $202.70 if you wanted a personalized ring box. I chose the option of purchasing the ring alone. The dark color of the stones and aged metal represent the tarnishing of the accomplishment that was felt after completing all steps necessary to finally acquire my ring.
SUNDAY NIGHT DRINKS

This painting is representative of our post-game celebration at a nearby restaurant. We continued to fill the top cup of the trophy with celebratory beverages as per tradition in Men’s and Women’s Professional Hockey. We stood on benches and tables as we continued to pass the cup around and celebrate our victory with teammates, friends, family and fans alike. We savored the moment long into the night of that memorable Sunday.
MONDAY MORNING WORK

This painting is representative of my early wake up call the morning following our championship win. As my alarm sounded, reality set back in. That reality being that despite accomplishing one of the tallest tasks in Women’s Professional Hockey, my full time career in architecture was waiting for me on Monday morning as if nothing had happened. With coffee in tow, I made my morning commute into New York City, completing projects and tasks with water and ibuprofen beside me on my desk. In the months following our win, each player had the opportunity to spend a week with the cup. Seeing the trophy atop my desk in the midst of a stressful deadline, I was reminded that our victory was not just a dream.
